As reported by RBC-Ukraine correspondents, Secretary General of the Council of Europe Alain Berset made this announcement during a press briefing in Kyiv.

"We are also working on this [Special Tribunal - ed.]. We are involved in all the negotiations within the core group, and I hope that very soon we can achieve significant progress. I hope that we can make this happen in April or perhaps early this year, taking an important step toward making the Special Tribunal fully operational," Berset assured.

He emphasized that the tribunal will only be possible if support from a range of countries can be secured. Berset noted that without global support, such a court would face challenges in gaining international cooperation.

It is worth recalling that Secretary General Alain Berset's visit to Kyiv was announced on December 4.

During his visit, he met with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, with discussions also focusing on the establishment of the tribunal. The tribunal is deemed crucial to ensure that Russian war criminals are held accountable for their actions.
